Starlink.com/Activate Guide: How to Activate a New Starlink Kit
When my new Starlink kit arrived, I wanted to activate the service and get online without any complicated setup. The process was easier once I connected the hardware and had the Starlink identifier ready. Here is the step-by-step process for activating a new kit.
Steps to Activate a New Starlink Kit
1. Set Up Your Starlink Hardware
Start by connecting your Starlink hardware, router, and power supply. Make sure all cables are securely connected.
Then connect your phone or another device to the STARLINK Wi-Fi network. Starlink recommends using the Starlink app during setup because it can help you check the connection and identify setup issues.
2. Open Starlink.com/Activate
Once your kit is connected, open the official activation page at Starlink.com/Activate. The page asks for your Starlink identifier before you can continue.
3. Find Your Starlink Identifier
For a new retail kit, check the Starlink box for the Kit ID. Starlink says the Kit ID begins with KIT and may be printed on a sticker or at the top of the box.
If you do not have the box, the Starlink app may provide the identifier after you connect to your Starlink network.
4. Enter the Identifier
Enter the Starlink identifier exactly as it appears on your kit or in the app. Then select Continue.
If the identifier is incorrect or the hardware is already associated with another account, activation may not work.
5. Add Your Contact Information
Continue through the activation form and enter the requested contact information. This information is used to create or associate your Starlink account.
6. Enter Your Service Address
Enter the address where you will use the Starlink service. Make sure the country selected on the Starlink website matches the country used when registering your account. A country mismatch can prevent activation.
7. Choose a Service Plan
Select an available Starlink service plan for your location. Plan availability can depend on network capacity in your area.
If Standard or Priority service is unavailable because your area is capacity-limited, Starlink may offer a Roam option instead.
8. Add Your Payment Method
Enter your payment information and review your plan and billing details.
For a retail or third-party kit activated as a new account, Starlink states that the upcoming month of service is charged immediately after activation.
9. Click Place Order
Review all the information you entered and select Place Order to complete the activation.
Starlink states that the service statement will then generate automatically every 30 days.
10. Check Your Internet Connection
After activation, open the Starlink app and check the connection status. You can use the app to look for alerts, outages, or obstructions.
If you cannot get online, check the cables, confirm that you are at the correct service address, and power-cycle the Starlink by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
Final Thoughts
Activating a new Starlink kit at Starlink.com/Activate is straightforward when you have your Kit ID, service address, and payment information ready. I recommend using the Starlink app during setup because it makes it easier to check your connection and troubleshoot problems. Also, make sure your kit was purchased through Starlink or an authorized retailer, since hardware from unauthorized retailers cannot be activated.
