How to Activate a Starlink Kit Purchased From a Retailer
When I purchased my Starlink kit from a retailer, I was initially unsure whether the activation process would be different from buying directly from Starlink. It turned out to be straightforward. I just needed my Starlink identifier, service address, and payment information ready.
Steps to Activate a Retailer-Purchased Starlink Kit
1. Check That the Retailer Is Authorized
Before starting, make sure you purchased the kit from Starlink or an authorized Starlink retailer. Starlink says hardware purchased from an unauthorized retailer cannot be activated.
2. Set Up Your Starlink Kit
Connect the Starlink dish, router, and power cables. Once the hardware is powered on, connect your phone or another device to the STARLINK Wi-Fi network.
Starlink recommends using the Starlink app during the activation and setup process.
3. Go to Starlink.com/Activate
Open the official Starlink activation page and enter your Starlink identifier to begin. The activation page specifically supports kits purchased from retailers.
4. Find Your Starlink Identifier
For a retail kit, the identifier is usually the Kit ID, which can be found on the shipping label or Starlink box. It generally begins with KIT.
If you do not have the box, you can find other hardware identifiers through the Starlink app or on the hardware label, depending on your Starlink model.
5. Enter Your Email and Select an Account Type
Enter your email address and choose New Account if you are new to Starlink, or Existing Account if you already have a Starlink account.
6. Enter Your Service Address
Provide the address where you plan to use the Starlink service. Make sure the country selected on the Starlink website matches the country used to register your account, as a country mismatch can prevent activation.
7. Choose a Starlink Service Plan
Select an available service plan for your location. Availability can depend on network capacity. In capacity-limited areas, Starlink may offer a Roam plan instead of Standard or Priority service.
8. Add Your Contact and Billing Information
Enter the requested contact and payment information. Review your plan and billing details carefully before continuing.
9. Place Your Order
After reviewing everything, select Place Order to activate the service. Starlink states that the service statement will automatically generate every 30 days.
10. Check Your Connection
Once activation is complete, open the Starlink app and check your connection status. The app can also help you identify setup issues or alerts.
For a new retail kit, Starlink says you may receive one hour of internet access when the kit is first plugged in, giving you time to complete activation even if you do not have another internet connection available.
11. What If the Activation Does Not Work?
If you receive an Invalid Device ID error, check that you entered the Starlink identifier correctly. If the problem continues, contact Starlink Support.
Also check that the kit is not already assigned to another account and that you are activating it in the same country used during account registration.
Final Thoughts
Activating a Starlink kit purchased from a retailer is fairly simple. I recommend checking the retailer, finding the correct Kit ID, and using the Starlink app during setup. Once you enter your account, address, plan, and billing details, selecting Place Order completes the activation process.
